What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and How do I perform it?

What is two-factor authentication (2FA) and how does it work?

Keeping your information secure is our top priority. With two-factor authentication (2FA), we’ll text you a six-digit verification code to confirm it’s really you logging into your Stash account.

Completing this second step to log in is quick and easy, and helps protect your account by requiring a one-time, secure code in addition to your password.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Log in to your Stash account with your email address and password. (Tip: Keep your phone nearby to help speed up this verification process.)
  2. We’ll automatically send a text/SMS message with your code to your phone number on file.
  3. Enter the code on your device. You’re now logged in and ready to invest!

What if I didn’t get my verification code?

If after a few minutes you haven’t received your verification code via text, select Didn’t get the code? to request a new one. You can choose to have us send that code by text again or have us call you with your code.

Will I need to verify my login each time I open the app or access my Stash online?

Nope! In the app, you can generate a PIN for verification. Otherwise, you’ll only need to do two-factor authentication when you change browsers, or if you haven’t logged in for a while.

How do I make sure Stash has my most up-to-date phone number for two-factor authentication (2FA)?

You can verify your phone number at any time in your account’s Settings & Security (once you’ve logged into your Stash account).
